One of the most important applications of geosynthetic insulation and waterproofing materials is the use of GCL bentonite insulation cover and HDPE geomembrane (in thicknesses of 1.5 and 2 mm) to provide insulation for oil tanks, including the bottom surface of metal fuel storage tanks, which are often cylindrical and The outer boundary of the tanks is the boundary between the separating embankments (Bond Wall). Geosynthetic materials are designed and implemented as a protective layer against the infiltration of liquids resulting from the possible leakage of petroleum materials and gas condensates into the soil bed, in order to prevent environmental pollution and monitor the amount of leakage in the foundation.
Due to the very high quality of production, geosynthetic materials are used in accordance with GRI-GM13, API standards and in different widths for the isolation of the foundation of cylindrical and round oil tanks due to the minimum deviation caused by curved cuts. After the initial bedding, the concrete ring is made and the required pipes are planned in the wall of the ring, and if needed, the sumps are dug in the specified places. Generally, the compression of the surfaces should be around 95% to see proper performance. It is recommended to use one or two layers of geotextile and one layer of HDPE heavy polyethylene geomembrane or GCL bentonite insulation to isolate oil tanks.
